Enjoy Your Weekend (W/E April 6th)
Make sure to hit the jump this week to check out Kentucky's response to Ohio's final friday: First Fridays. Of note, Curtis Heuser, who we recently ran an article on, is giving a free tour of the home he remodeled and subsequently chronicled in "Living Canvas." Details are given in the press release below:
What: First Fridays
Where: Various Locations in Newport, KY
When: Friday Night, April 4th 6pm -- 9pm
Cost: Free
You're invited to The Gallery TOGETHER's "First Friday" artists' reception on April 4th from 6 to 9. During the month of April, the Gallery celebrates the approaching Derby
with a "trifecta" of fine art, gifts for the garden and antiquities.
We feature several new artists: Joan Miley's boldly colored watercolors usher in spring. Heather Batelle's windows executed in fused glass mosaics are so reasonable and so perfect for our historic homes. Commission Heather to design a window that simulates the stained glass so appropriate for our lovely Victorian homes as well as one that suits your decor. Jonathan Perry's landscapes and Indian portraits are stunning. Lisa Boehne works flowers from her garden into shadowbox collages.
Rachel Jones, TOGETHER's potter, introduces a new line of Ikebana trays, terra cotta planters and brie and bread bakers. The Ikebana trays come in two sizes and are wonderful containers for one or more spring blooms.
Perfect for the garden, we have a selection of birdhouses and garden critters to pose among your posies . . . . . . turtles, snails that hold a candle to glow in the evening,
bunnies, and birds perched on terra cotta balls. We can help ready your garden with trickling fountains, garden accessories and watering cans with the patina of age
. . . . . . . all a "sure bet" for the spring landscape.
A "safe wager" that is guaranteed to "pay off" at the GALLERIES is . . . . . .a visit with Curtis Heuser, co-host for the evening and author of Your Home a Living Canvas,
. . . . . . a look at our Kentucky Derby display . . . . . . . . and a visit with all our dynamic artists.
A special invitation for this evening is a tour of the Curtis Heuser home, his "living canvas" will be free on April 4th. Simply follow the candle lit luminary path to see the home that inspired the beautiful book. Reviewed on Amazon as "by far the best publication on the subject". . . . his talent is awe inspiring. Autographed copies of his book are available.
Inspired by the famous "Run for the Roses" the evening's flower special will be a dozen roses for $20. We look forward to seeing you Friday, April 4 for a celebration that
heralds spring and the Derby.
