Casablanca Vintage: Fabric Adventure in Northside

Casablanca1.jpgWe at BuyCincy assume you readers are quite stylish people, but if you're feeling otherwise, stop by Casablanca Vintage in Northside for the most eclectic clothes and outgoing staff in the city.

Casablanca Vintage has existed in various forms and locations for twenty years now under owner George DiLorenzo. It now sits near the corner of Spring Grove Ave and Hamilton. The shop offers a wide selection of women's clothing for purchase, offering 1920s to present fashions. The men's retail section primarily features 80s apparel, though every era and style are well represented in the upstairs men's and women's rental section (which is available by appointment).

To attempt to describe the extent of the variety in Casablanca -featuring all manner of used and vintage shirts, pants, dresses, hats (there were a number Stetsons this writer imagined himself in), shoes, boots, belts, fabrics, ties, etc- would be fruitless. "I've been collecting this stuff for a long time," George informed us.

Instead, then, we advise you to go to this shop with nothing in mind. Once there, sidle up next to the resident designer, Donny "Hollywood" McFinely. Donny has been the clothes stylist in such films as "Shawshank Redemption," "Milk Money," and was behind the outlandish clothes for "Mimi" from "The Drew Carey Show." Don't let those credentials intimidate you, though; "People always tell me, 'Donny you are Hollywood, but you make us feel like the stars,'" Donny said to us. It's this outgoing nature that has earned Donny a great deal of regulars and patrons whom he always greets by name before dragging them to an aisle, saying only "Let's shop it."

We guarantee that if you stop by this shop, one of the staff members will sweep you up and guide you to a shirt or style you had never even conceived. Of course, you'll have fun too.

You can also stop by Casablanca for any number of costumes and rentals, or even leather shoe repair from the in-house leatherworker Tim Willig.
