The Visual History Gallery is both an educational experience and a retail venture. Owner Michael Wilger bought the archive of 12,000 large-format negatives from Serge Marsh, a local commercial photographer whose 50-year career included newspaper work. Approximately 4,000 of those negatives have been digitized and are available for purchase.
To get a sense of the range of the collection, start by perusing the VHG site. You'll be treated to a sizeable selection of subjects including the downtown skyline and significant buildings, Fountain Square, Mt. Adams, Union Terminal, and various bridges, stadia and athletes through the years.
For an in-depth look, or to fulfill a specific request, your best bet is to visit the Gallery in person and ask Michael to show you some of the many images that are not online.
