You find yourself anxiously racing around yet another full parking lot at yet another faceless, soulless, big-box store with visions of generic gifts that could be bought anywhere dancing through your head. You trudge through the crowds and the long check-out lines only to have your purchases rung up by someone who seems even less pleased with the whole affair than you are. Next stop: bland eats from the nearest fast food drive-thru to refuel before taking on the next chain store. Not exactly the "most wonderful time of the year," eh?
The good folks at BuyCincy think there's a better way, and they've invited a group of guest contributors to post about it. Envision walking among a wide variety of shops with unique gifts, friendly service, and tasty delectables to sustain you through your holiday shopping. That's just what you can do in any one of Cincinnati's many vibrant business districts when you shop locally.
BuyCincy has brought you profiles of many great locally-owned businesses. Think of this holiday shopping series as putting the profiles into action - a reality-tv version of BuyCincy. The guest contributors have committed to making an effort to spend at least some of their holiday shopping dollars at locally-owned businesses in their neighborhoods. They'll give you the play-by-play as they revisit old favorite stores and explore new ones in the quest for the perfect gift.
We'll be posting over the next few weeks and hope you'll check back regularly. However, shopping and eating locally is not a spectator sport. Consider getting out this weekend to Price Hill for Holiday on the Hill or to Main Street for Shop and Stroll in OTR. Every Saturday night you can catch the festivities at Fountain Square for Downtown Dazzle after checking out downtown's shops and restaurants. If that's not enough go see the great new stores in the Gateway Quarter on Vine Street in OTR on December 11 for Caroling in the Q. Happy (local) shopping!
