January 25, 2009 in Uncategorized

As many people in the “foodie” community have heard – Pigall’s is closing at the end of February.

The big question now is – should you try and get there before they do????

I would say YES!

GreenBird House

January 24, 2009 in Products

GreenBirdHouse.gifEarlier this month, a new product designed by a Cincinnati company was deemed museum-worthy. The GreenBird House, from GreenBird LLC, was recently added to the Robert C. Williams Paper Museum in Atlanta, Georgia (which, according to their website, is an “internationally renowned resource on the history of paper and paper technology”).

The GreenBird House is a single season birdhouse constructed from post-consumer recycled paper-board (supplied by a local paper company), which can be composted at the end of the year.
GreenBird’s goal is to use their eco-friendly product to help promote green products and publicize the depletion of bird habitat in the US.

Ludlow Wines: Artisan Wine and Beer in Clifton

January 22, 2009 in Stores

Ludlow Wines.jpgWalking into Ludlow Wines is unique in that one immediately feels at home inside, but never loses the titillation that a window shopper gets when they finally venture inside a shop for the first time. The former is probably due to the immensely friendly staff, while the latter is likely due to the constantly changing (and always eclectic) wine and beer selection. The two exist in this conjunction, though, because Ludlow Wines is unquestionably a pedestrian shop.

A Beginners Guide to Emanu & Ethiopian Food!

January 19, 2009 in Uncategorized

emanu.gif

I live in Pleasant Ridge and am continuously amazed by the plethora of restaurants that Cincinnati has to offer. There’s been a fairly recent addition that, as one of my friends would say, brings me joy.

Emanu opened last summer on the corner of Montgomery and Losantiville with much ado. The sign had been there peaking our interest for quite some time…and we waited and waited and WAITED! Then – yeah! It opened!

I’ve been quite a few times now and am overjoyed each and every time I go. The food is definitely unique – somewhat akin to Indian food – but it’s so refreshing! The flavor is so unique – it’s something you all must try!

Suburban Shopper: Ute’s Brings the Bling

January 14, 2009 in Columns, Stores

BuyCincy would like to welcome Feoshia from CincyBurb. She will be contributing frequently, giving us the locally-owned best of the Cincy ‘burbs.

When it comes to jewelry, I’ll admit I’m a girly girl. I like sparkly things. That’s probably why over and over again I’ve gone to Ute’s Unique Lifestyle Jewelry in Montgomery’s Heritage District.

Owner Ute Kremer opened the jewelry and accessory shop in 2005. What makes the place really special is that she makes much of what you find there. She personally chooses the other pieces from jewelry makers all over the world.

She carries earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, purses and more. She also has a selection of bridal jewelry, a selection is pictured on the left.

“All the designs are my own,” says Ute. “Everything is one-of-a-kind and unique.”

She works with glass and semi-precious stone, as well as sterling silver and antiqued metal. If you catch her at the right time, you can see her making a new piece in her work space in a back room of the shop.

It’s a Beautiful Bluebird Breakfast!

January 12, 2009 in Uncategorized

Sunday morning – after a night of adult beverages – I woke up in DESPERATE need of pancakes…I couldn’t help it…it was just the way it was!

So – I grabbed my friend Otis and off we went!

The Bluebird Restaurant is on Montgomery Rd in Norwood and is a quaint, cute breakfast spot that has been serving breakfast to Cincinnatians for over 35 years! (not always as Bluebird).

Originally, the spot was a Country Kitchen for 30 years, then it was Cafe on the Pike and for the past two years, it’s been Bluebird Restaurant and it’s great!

It’s very clean and refreshing and has all the original diner things like the round counters you sit at, etc…

Kelli sells hand felted, 100% wool creations. Products range from animals to
ornaments to jewelry pieces. She loves that each one is an individual, one
of a kind item. “Even when I’m making several pieces of the same kind, they
all will have their own personality.”

Kelli has sold pieces (children’s necklaces) at The Spotted Goose in Oakley,
and can often be found felting in the coffee shop at Blue Manatee children’s
bookstore.

MMMMMMMM…CHEESECAKE!

January 5, 2009 in Local Food, Restaurants

100_0647.JPG

I was heading to my friend’s house for New Years Eve. She had a BBQ rib tasting awaiting me and I thought – well – we need some dessert! So I stopped by Crumbs in Oakley on my way home to pick up some cheesecake. I was hoping they’d have a bit left and I was in luck!

Happy New Year from BuyCincy

January 3, 2009 in About

To all Cincinnati shopowners and the residents that are critical to their success, Happy New Year from everyone at BuyCincy.

While this holiday season was tough for many large retailers, many Cincinnatians flocked to their neighborhood businesses to ensure our neighbors and neighborhoods were supported. Our goal in 2009 is to try and spread this attitude throughout the year, to mobilize neighborhoods in support of their small business districts, and to reward to the entrepreneurial spirit of Cincinnati’s  best shopowners in a tough economy.
So thanks to everyone who supported us in 2008: The retailers who joined in our mission, the kind members of the media who helped us get the word out, and especially our readers – who continued to tell their families about the site and pass along stories to their friends. May 2009 bring success, peace, and happiness to your lives.
