Alluring?

March 8, 2009 in Uncategorized

I have been dying to go back to Allure in Montgomery ever since my first visit the week they opened. It’s been over a year and I had a Restaurant.com gift certificate burning a whole in my pocket!

So I gathered some friends and off we went. Now – if you’re not familiar with Allure – it’s a very “cool” place. Have you been to Go Bananas? Well it’s in that same “mall” area. It’s a very cute area – lots of little buildings, with lakes and the feeling of a neighborhood. I wish I lived somewhere like that!

Hyde Bark: Fun for Fido

March 8, 2009 in Stores

Research has shown that people who live with pets tend to be happier and live longer lives. So, of course, it seems apropos to indulge our pets every now and then and what better place to do this than Hyde Bark, a boutique for dogs of every size, shape, and breed.

Hyde Bark was voted “Best in Cincinnati” in 2005, the first year it opened and store owner (and dog owner of course), Cynthia Waldenmaier, says she was shocked and pleased to win the award.

Fabulous Frames: Where to Get Your Charlie Harper Fix

March 8, 2009 in Stores

It is always interesting to hear the claim “biggest in the world”. Usually, this conjures images of incredibly tall skyscrapers or expansive spaces. So, its even more of a surprise to stop in a modest Downtown storefront and hear that same phrase. This time, “biggest in the world” referred to the store’s status the largest dealer of prints by the late, great Cincinnati artist Charley Harper – a title Fabulous Frames & Art carries proudly.

Restaurant Week is almost here!!!!! March 16-22

March 6, 2009 in Uncategorized

rw66.jpgFor those of you that don’t know – Restaurant Week is one of my favorite Cincinnati events. I am a foodie after all and who doesn’t like a deal!

What is Restaurant Week? Well, the Greater Cincinnati Independents are a local organization of independent restaurants and they have organized this event for the past few years.

New York, San Francisco, etc… all have this tradition and it’s fabulous! Local restaurants offer a 3 course meal at a bargain! The menu typically offers 2-3 choices for each of the courses and it’s usually a catchy price – this year – $26.09.

More on Churchill’s Closing

March 2, 2009 in Editorial

Last week, we left our hearts on our collective sleeves and wrote an open letter to Churchill’s Tea Room & Shop, who is closing their downtown shop after approximately 6 years at Tower Place Mall. Well, Kathleen Kern, owner of Churchill’s was kind enough to leave us a reply in the comments of that story, which we thought we would share with you in a full-fledged post.

Finally – I get to try the Vietnamese!

March 1, 2009 in Uncategorized

I’ve been dying to try Cilantro in Clifton for over a year!

It’s on Clifton Ave right near the campus – hidden amongst a streetful of random storefronts.

We stopped by on a night when they weren’t busy so we got to chat with the owner. He was very fun and told us all about the restaurant and the food.

Unfortunately – it was over a week ago and I don’t remember what he told me! haha

The food is all very traditional and he’s run Cilantro for about 5 years.

The most popular dish is the Pho (pronounced Fuh). It’s a traditional beef stock (beef – that’s the key!) with veggies and your selection of protein.
