Tasting Our Way Through Taste of Cincinnati 2009

Heading down to the Taste of Cincinnati for Monday's finale? Here's our take on some of what we have tasted so far.

  • Andy's Mediterranean Grill - Andy's is a Taste mainstay, and their quality is consistent year to year. This year, we had the falafel, hummus, and pita which should please veggies and carnivores alike.
  • Mac's Pizza Pub - To quote our tweet earlier today "never underestimate the power of beer cheese." Macs' waffle fries with Mt. Carmel beer cheese was spicy enough to not get drowned out by our beer, but not overwhelming.
  • Keystone Bar & Grill - This gets our Smallest Portion at Taste award. Admittedly, the Buffalo Chicken Mac n' Cheese is pretty darn good, but I expect a little more (especially when its mac n' cheese) for $4.
  • Vitors Bistro - The Walnut-Coconut Encrusted Shrimp got the Award of Excellence for Appetizers, and with good reason. After tons of greasy food, the shrimp was refreshing and really really good.
  • Mixx - The folks at Mixx were relentless in drawing customers to their booth, handing out flyers and shouting out their specials. It worked. We stopped by for a Cincinnati Roll, which was a tuna tempura roll of some sort. Not bad, and we are certainly happy to see something different at Taste, but sushi is not known for holding up well in summer heat.
  • Montgomery Inn - If you love the Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce like we do, there are plenty of options, including what looked to be a good sized serving of ribs. We opted for the Saratoga chips and sauce, a perfect snack to share with your Taste entourage.

Going down Monday and thanks for the tips.

I definitely agree with both Vitor's Shrimp and Mixx's sushi. I got the Cincy roll despite my gut instinct, and only took two bites of it.

It's probably good in the restaurant, but definitely not in 90 degree heat.

Also recommend Behle St Cafe's sweet potato fries.
