BuyCincy's Guide to Mt. Adams Restaurants

5 great restaurants in Mt. Adams. Read our take, find local reviews, rate the restaurants, and suggest restaurants we may have missed.

Unfortunately, there were so many big news stories yesterday that news about three of our favorite local businesses was all but lacking. Sean bravely brought you a few details about the fires at Findlay Market and the building next to Grammer's. Here are some updates!

Findlay Market: The main market buildings were not damaged. The fire started when a shingle blew off the M&F Market on Vine and hit a transformer. The sparks hit some buildings, and soon the former Globe Furniture, the current Leader Furniture and two other buildings were on fire.

Grammer's: The bar did not catch on fire, as was erroneously reported all over the city. The building next to Grammer's, which houses the rathskeller, caught fire on the third floor. I just talked to Ryan Breen, the general manager, and he said while the rathskeller was pretty much destroyed by water damage, the rest of the bar will be fine. The bar suffered water damage, and the much-anticipated AC system was flooded. However, most of the important relics were spared or are salvageable.

Ryan is very optimistic about the reopening (there's no doubt it will reopen) and said it could be as early as a week. When we spoke, he was moving liquor bottles and cleaning up the bar.

[ed. 08.16.08 - Polly Campbell is now reporting that Grammer's re-opening looks to be early October]

Park + Vine: A piece of the roof--perhaps the lining? I'm no roof expert--was dislodged and is now hanging over the front of the building. Dan left a note on the door that says he hopes to be open tomorrow.
grammers-fire.jpgSevere weather in Cincinnati has affected two area icons.

Cincinnati.com is reporting that Findlay Market and adjacent buildings are on fire. Roads were blocked around the market, and fire crews were present this afternoon.

The building that houses the rathskeller at Grammer's has also caught fire. Three fire trucks are on the scene attempting to control the fire, which to our knowledge has not spread to the building that houses the main bar. We heard while we were there that no one was injured. High winds have caused havoc throughout Over-the-Rhine, knocking down tree branches and damaging roofs. What appeared to be roofing was scattered on Walnut St. in front of Grammer's. We will update this as more information becomes available.

* 6:16 p.m. - Cincinnati.com reports that none of the central market buildings at Findlay Market were damaged

BuyCincy-approved stories recently floating around the interwebs:

  • UrbanCincy is excited about the three new shops opening up in the Gateway Quarter, The Little Mahatma, which is moving from its Main Street location, Switch, an eclectic lighting store, and Incredible Creations, an upscale beauty shop and salon.
  • Queen City Survey checks out "It's Just Crepes" a new lunch spot downtown that serves, well, we will let you guess on that one.
  • Apartment Therapy features Paper Cloud, a Cincinnati-based company that specializes in really cool floral-inspired pillows.
  • Finally, not a blog, but Cincinnati.com had a story on the growing business of Wild Joe's Beef Jerky, who is benefiting from some Food Network love.

MPMF Streetcar!

mpmfHeader.jpgAlong with the excitement of multiple venues across Cincinnati's downtown, OTR, and the Levee comes the inevitable question: "how am I going to see all of it?" MPMF 2008 has an answer for you: a streetcar system. Three-day wristband holders will have access to a Scion driven "streetcar" stopping throughout the night at all the venues, running north on Main Street, west on 12th Street, back south on Walnut Street, and east on 5th.

Yes you're at the right site.  After feedback that we recieved from our recent reader survey, BuyCincy has changed its site design.  We hope that you find the new design cleaner and a little easier to navigate.  Please let us know what you think about the new look by leaving comments below.

Thanks for your input,

Kurt

Bob Roncker's Running Spot in Glendale.

There's a new fitness trend every minute, but if you can't find time for a spinning-fusion-hot-yoga class, nothing beats a run. And when you're on that daily, weekly, or (in my case) semi-monthly run, it's key to have the right equipment.

With the opening of the fourth "Bob Roncker's Running Spot" in the Cincinnati area, there's another, local, place to get it.
Circuitastrophe - circuit bending symposium, gallery installations, and performances continues through the weekend and into Monday. The CAC is involved, as well as art performance spaces of new and old - Semantics, Murmur, The Mockbee, and ArtDamage Lounge. But I suggest you just go - instead of giving more hits to Myspace. In short, - tehe - circuit bending is a type of aural experimentation that seems to follow the mantra: If it can be made it can also be taken apart...

Enjoy Your Weekend!

It's Thursday and the weekend is almost here!  Check out these fun events around the city.  The BuyCincy staff will meet you there!

For a couple days now, some of Cincinnati's best local restaurants have been celebrating Restaurant Week with some tasty deals. From Sept. 2nd - Sept. 7th, a 3-course meal at area landmarks such as Primavista, Tink's Cafe, and Washington Plaform will only set ya back $28.08.

This weekend, Daveed's and Chalk better get ready for a BuyCincy staff invasion. For a full list of restaurants participating, along with their menus, and dates of participation, head on over to the Greater Cincinnati Independents website.
mpmfHeader.jpgAnd if you're still not sure you deserve this 29-dollar musical splurge, check out the now available event schedule. MPMF is claiming these wristbands have "magical powers;" after spending some time with this year's schedule, we concur.
