Dee Felice: A bit of N'Awlins in NKy.

FP#2.jpg Dee Felice Cafe is the closest Queen City can get to New Orleans. Located in Covington's MainStrasse district, Dee Felice has been serving up classic Cajun dishes against a soundtrack of live jazz since 1984.

What's the deal?
When you're in the mood for live jazz and some great Cajun food, head south to Covington's Dee Felice Cafe. Established in 1984 by its namesake, the late drummer Dee Felice, the restaurant's Web site boasts "huge portions, reasonable prices, and short waits during weekend dinners." It's the truth. Even at 8 p.m. on a Saturday, when Bill Gemmer and the New Sleepcat Band are swinging on the stage behind the bar, service is prompt and dishes are overwhelmingly large. (Reservations are recommended here.)
Grab a seat at the bar and watch the band up close or take a table in the dining room for a more intimate meal. Try Cajun favorites such as jambalaya, crawfish etouffee or file gumbo in this renovated 18th century pharmacy. With its candlelit dining room, Dee Felice is an ideal date restaurant, but the food, music and ambiance make it an ideal restaurant for a night out with a group of friends.

I am not lucky enough to go out to dinner often, but I did get to enjoy a great meal and even better jazz at this genuinely, cozy, one of a kind restaurant. It was wonderful and when I can, I will go back.

I've eaten here and have really enjoyed the food but found the service to be seriously lacking. I'm willing to give Dee Felice another try sometime, though!
