Listermann's has enjoyed a reputation as one of the tri-states' finest brewery supply stores for over 15 years. The Listermann "Brewing Company", however, was just premiered this past week. BuyCincy met up with brewers at a beer tasting last Saturday to try out their newly approved "Wild Mild Ale."
Listermann's had their own table set up amongst the droves of others at this beer tasting. Two employees sat relaxed behind the two taps containing "Wild Mild Ale" and the soon to be released "Cream Ale." This reporter gracefully approached (or perhaps stumbled, as it was a beer tasting) and tried the former.
Wild Mild Ale
It was refreshing to see some brewers at this festival with taps. As silly as this sounds, the vast majority of tables had brought only bottles. Listermann's outdid even those serving from pony kegs. This table had the real old-fashioned taps with the large white handles (the kind you "pull" to create your own pressure). Suffice to say, they were serving in style.
You're probably curious why this is relevant, so I'll tell you. This encounter ended up being somewhat allegorical to "Wild Mild Ale." It felt like an artisan's beer. It was at first a difficult beer to really taste and smell, but it moved on to demonstrate a lot of finesse. Every aspect of the taste seemed well thought out, making it very smooth and drinkable. With this kind of balance, it's a highly accessible beer, particularly for non-drinkers.
-Pale carmel/gold color.
-Pleasant faint aroma.
-Clear and well carbonated.
-Easy malty first taste that quickly moves down (perhaps a bit too fast for my liking) to resurface in the drinker's exclamation of "Ahh."
We can't tell you much more than that, as it would not be fair to the people at Listermann's to review a beer too thoroughly from a chance meeting. Also, you've got to try it yourselves.
