Spencer McKinney plans on bringing some Louisiana flavor to College Hill. Shhhhh Restaurant celebrates its grand opening this Friday, May 15th, taking over an abandoned Woolworth's on Hamilton Ave.

Part Creole cuisine, part jazz club, Shhhhh will serve up red beans and rice, jambalaya, gumbo, and seafood from the front deli for lunch and full service restaurant and bar for dinner and late night. Live jazz will accompany patrons on weekend evenings.

The Cincinnati native returned to the Queen City 2 years ago to help care for his parents, coming up with the idea for Shhhhh with his mother shortly after his father passed away. After her passing earlier this year, McKinney remains determined to honor her memory in the restaurant.
"I was born and raised in Cincinnati, here in the heart of College Hill," said McKinney. "My career took me all over the United States and abroad, and I have seen many places - but this is where I call my home. It feels wonderful to be back - and I don't want to just live here, I want to give back to the community that raised me.... As a small local business, we also intend to do our part to contribute to the economic vitality of the area."

Friday's grand opening (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) includes remarks by Mayor Mark Mallory and McKinney as well as a tour of the facilities, light refreshments and specials in the deli throughout the day. Starting on Saturday, May 16th, the deli will serve hungry patrons, with the restaurant and bar soon to follow.

I hope to visit soon!

Creole sounds like a nice addition to the Cincinnati dining scene...and I'm even more excited that it's opening in College Hill. Can't wait to check Shhhhh out.
