5 great restaurants in Mt. Adams. Read our take, find local reviews, rate the restaurants, and suggest restaurants we may have missed.

mt_adams_monk.jpgLocal Flavor: Mt. Adams

Famous for its great views of the city and busy nightlife, Mt. Adams is a well-known, if compact, Cincinnati neighborhood. Though finding your way around its steep and winding streets may be tough the first time (and parking notoriously tough all the time), you'll find more than one reason to come back-- Mt. Adams is home to several fantastic restaurants. Steak, sushi, or high-end American, there's plenty here. Just make sure to get a reservation - Mt. Adams is no Cincinnati secret.

If you've eaten at one of these restaurants, or other great locally-owned restaurants in Mt. Adams, be sure to let us know what you thought. You can rate each restaurant or leave a comment on this post. So, join us as BuyCincy delves into the tastiest parts of Mt. Adams.

Joseph Williams Home - Joseph Williams Home is moving to the Gateway Quarter, and most items at their Reading Road location have been discounted for the move.

OUTSIDE - Fall products are in - including metal jack-o-lantern candle buckets and spiderweb candle holders.

We met up with Fred and Brian of Joseph Williams Home this weekend, and received some very exciting news. The store, which now resides on Reading Road in Over-the-Rhine, will be moving to the 13th and Vine in the Gateway Quarter (on the floor level of the nearly completed Trideca Lofts). This will put it a stone's throw from Metronation, A Lucky Step, Park + Vine, City Roots, Outside, and soon, Switch and Mahatma. The better news if you're in the market for furniture and design-y things for your space - they are having a sale on  nearly everything in their store. What you buy, they won't have to pack up and move. Look for Joseph Williams Home to complete their Gateway Quarter move by late fall.

BuyCincy would like to congratulate our own Maggie Clarke on her recent engagement to longtime boyfriend, Ryan Blomer. Ryan, a Network Analyst at Power Net Global, proposed to Maggie Friday on the observation deck of the Carew Tower. The couple will be setting a date for October of next year.

Those of us at BuyCincy who have been lucky enough to know both Maggie and Ryan for many years are very excited for the two of them and wish them the best. We know that they will continue to bring each other the happiness that they have shared for the last several years.

mpmfHeader.jpgWe came. We heard. It was awesome. Midpoint 2008 is officially over, but we want to relive last weekend in all its ear-splitting glory just one more time. In our 3 days of coverage, we saw bands from Seattle (Say Hi), Monterrey, Mexico (Mocks), Athens, Georgia (The Winter Sounds), and a bunch of quality bands from here in Cincinnati.

Wherever we went, and whoever we saw though, crowds were abundant, which was great to see in the city center. In fact, we barely squeezed in for a few shows at the Know Theater and Lodge Bar, and couldn't even fit in the door at Courtyard Cafe Saturday night.

Saturday night started out with a trip to the WOXY stage at the Aronoff for the Mocks from Monterrey, Mexico. Although they had a few sound mixing problems to start the set, they were a nice, peppy way to start the night. Citybeat's write-up had a Bjork comparison, which is probably pretty accurate. However, the lead singer also reminded me a bit of the singer for the Brazilian band CSS. With a heavy 80s influence, I am surprised I didn't see more leg warmers in the audience.

With the Koala Fires starting right when the Mocks were ending, I skipped out on the last song to catch the Scion Streetcar over to the Know Theater. It was my only time riding the streetcar, during the festival, and I think its a good start, although it could be drastically improved.

My driver wasn't too familiar with the area, and went a couple blocks past my destination.  From what I heard, this wasn't uncommon. The streetcars also stopped going at midnight, although shows were going on until 1 am. We tried to hail one from 6th and Walnut going to Courtyard Cafe just before midnight, and could not find one.  So, we walked up Walnut and passed the 20 or so Scions parked in a lot, music still blaring, but not carrying any passengers. Hopefully next year, they will go as long as the music does.
Met up with some friends from Lexington who were excited about seeing Pearlene live, so we headed over to the Lodge Bar at 11. Pearlene, of course, was filling everyone's ears with their bluesy rock, causing a few in the crowd to pick up the air guitar. Their sound was pretty impressive, very dense, and almost as if it was being propelled at you. We made it though their set - barely. With so many people moving around the Lodge Bar, some who didn't look like they were too thrilled with the venue's change of their regular top 40 remix tunes, it was impossible to   find even a bit of personal space.

The plan was to see the Buffalo Killers there at 12, but we decided we needed to get some fresh air, and some personal space. Unfortunately, when we headed to the Blue Wisp to catch the Pomegranates, so did a horde of our closest friends. At about 11:50, 8th St. was filled with groups of 5-6 people a piece walking East. After a short wait in line (which grew longer as it reached midnight), we squeezed our way into the Blue Wisp and listened to a very energetic, and very entertaining set by the Pomegranates. By 12:40, our legs were a bit tired (a painful sign we're not 18 anymore), so we went our separate ways, excited about doing the whole thing again Saturday night.
At the Say Hi show at the Aronoff/WOXY stage. A pretty good crowd and a really great MPMF venue addition. Say Hi sounds bit more guitar heavy than their recordings, but still has a beat strong enough to make two guys in the front shake and shimmy their hearts out.

Before this was The Winter Sounds at the Inner Peace Holistic or something like that stage. And the venue was exactly as no frills as it sounds. Although they did have Jagermeister so I hardly noticed. Winter Sounds were good, if a little too predictable, and very very loud. More later from Pearlene and Buffalo Killers, along with some pics if you're lucky.
We kick off our live Midpoint coverage with BuyCincy's own Jordan Neff of Magnolia Mountain.

It's nights like this that make you love Arnold's. Good bluegrass music music, a nice fall breeze, and delicious Christian Moerlein.

Magnolia Mountain is up now. I'm really digging their set, which has touches of blues, folk, and a good dash of roots bluegrass. Best of all, they feature both a slide guitar and an accordian. You just can't beat the accordian/slide guitar combo for a chill Thursday night.

Arnold's courtyard is one of our favorite places to hear live music and we could think of no better place to kick off what we hope to be a very successful Midpoint weekend.
Thumbnail image for mpmfHeader.jpgWith the 7th Midpoint Music Festival coming to Cincinnati this weekend, it's time to start planning your stops. You can find the latest updates on performing artists, venues, and special offers at our MPMF '08 coverage page. We've also put together a Midpoint Visitor's Guide to Cincinnati, with info on food, drinks, and shops. BuyCincy is sending its own team of "esteemed reporters" to this year's festival, and in this update they will be joined by Mark Messerly of Wussy. We found out that Mark is quite the MPMF veteran, and he later discussed the upcoming release of Wussy's third album in our final MPMF '08 update.
